We Still Like Each Other

I never thought I wanted to have children or be married. Yet I proposed to Stephanie, a single mom, 8 months into dating.

How did your love story begin?

I rarely go out and decided to attend a friend’s birthday party. Stephanie was invited by another friend to the same event. A drunk guy was hitting on her and she gave me the “help me eyes” and very uncharacteristically of me, I pretended to be with her. We were attached the whole night, but the night ended with us going our separate ways because we were both in relationships. 8 months later Steph got my attention and social media. We made plans to go hang out and have been together ever since.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Last year I was able to finalize the adoption of our oldest son. It was something I’ve always wanted, but the process can be draining. When the judge approved we were both relieved. The emotions of it all hit me when we called our son in to tell him the good news. I’ll never forget the embrace. I’m so proud he has my last name and is even more connected to his siblings.

What would you do with $20,000?

We would get a larger vehicle. We currently share one smaller SUV and as a family 5 it can sometimes feel cramped. Having an additional vehicle would also give us more flexibility.
