John and I were friends in high school, but life took us in different directions after graduation. Years later, we reconnected at a mutual friend’s holiday party, and what began as a friendship quickly grew into something deeper. Built on faith, laughter, shared values, and a commitment to serving others, our relationship blossomed. Just two years later (29 yrs ago), we were married, beginning a lifelong journey of love, family, purpose, and community together.

One of my favorite memories is the day John and I decided to return home to South Carolina. After building a beautiful life in Massachusetts, we knew we were leaving behind so much—but we also knew that as long as we were together, we were home. The drive back to Columbia was filled with a long conversation about how we can serve others and build a legacy together. Looking back, that journey wasn’t just about returning home—it was about following our purpose, hand in hand.

John and I established the Dozier Scholarship Fund at Columbia College SC to support deserving students facing financial hardship. Education changes lives, but too many students struggle to stay enrolled because of unexpected financial challenges. If selected, we will donate the entire $20,000 prize to the Dozier Scholarship Fund, helping more students remain in school, earn their degrees, and build brighter futures.
