Our love story almost never happened. Soul and I met on Plenty of Fish when we were both ready to give up on online dating. She kept returning to my profile because she loved my smile. She lived in Delaware and I lived in DC, so we met halfway in Baltimore for sushi. When I started popping edamame from the shell for her, she asked, “Is this the kind of girlfriend you are?” I smiled and replied, “This is the kind of person I am.”
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?One of our favorite memories is the first time we danced together in my kitchen in Washington, DC. Corinne Bailey Rae’s “Is This Love?” came on, and Soul asked, “Will you dance with me?” My heart skipped a beat. Three years later, we still dance together when no one is watching. For our wedding gifts, we chose tickets to see Corinne Bailey Rae live. It felt like a kiss on our love story.
What would you do with $20,000?Before we met, Soul bought 2.5 acres of riverfront land in New York’s Catskills and dreamed of building a tiny retirement cottage. Today, it’s our shared dream. We’d use the $20,000 to help build it and create a small glamping retreat that offers healing and respite for women and LGBTQ+ people. Winning would help us build a future for ourselves and a welcoming place for others.
