My wife and I are Nigerian-born lesbians who live in the US. When we met, we each knew we had found our soulmate. Our love gives us light.
Help us share our love story in Variety, take home $20,000, and go on a triple date with Jeff & Emilie Goldblum and Charlie Day & Mary Elizabeth Ellis!
We met on social media ten years ago. My wife is a physician and I am a Realtor and life coach. In Nigeria, our birth country, same-gender marriage carries a 14 year jail term and homosexuals are frequently brutalized. We were passionate about making a change and being visible as an inspiration to younger African lesbians in homophobic countries. So - we talked every day, late into the night - and fell deeply in love as we grew to know and admire each other. It’s been an incredible journey.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? Our wedding, in 2017, as the first out lesbian nigerian couple to get legally married in the US. We had a court marriage, a nigerian traditional wedding and a white wedding on the same day. We never believed this was possible.
What would you do with $20,000?We would donate it specifically to charities that support marginalized and vulnerable populations.
