When we met, we were both in our thirties and had been through much trauma. We shouldn’t have made it. But yet, twenty-six years in love.
We would like to thank you for supporting The Smith's in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
We met at a convention after party in Chicago. At the closing of the party, my coworker suggested House of Blues. He called a cab and when it arrived, he got in behind the driver, Sherri’s friend beside him and I behind the shotgun position. I thought Sherri was getting in shotgun, but instead she climbed onto my lap in the back with her breast in my face, which is why I usually say, “It was love at first feel.” Lol Seriously, we stayed up all night and felt the connection immediately.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? Our relationship has been tumultuous. We both experienced intense trauma early in life and didn’t really know how to behave in a relationship. We are also both Type A personalities and a bit stubborn. The memory that is most meaningful is getting to this point in time having worked through all those issues and still feeling enriched by each other.
What would you do with $20,000?The honeymoon we never had. Our daughter Kelsie was six when we met and her father was never on the scene. I adopted Kelsie right away and adore her. And, it meant we never really had a proper honeymoon. So, with $20k we’d start in Ireland, through Great Britain, France, Austria, Italy and finally Greece.
