I met Lina when I was running a support group for transgender people at our local LGBT Center. We became fast friends; she introduced me to the world of competitive pinball and I helped her navigate early transition tasks like coming out and starting hormones. After an accidental first kiss, our friendship quickly bloomed into a forever love.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?I surprised her for her birthday with a road trip to Chicago one year. We’d never been, and we’d never traveled that far together. We stayed in a yurt one night, stopped at the Bush’s baked beans visitors center, and did all kinds of weird and memorable activities. It was such an adventure and I knew I wanted to adventure with her for the rest of my life.
What would you do with $20,000?My wife is a high school teacher who is passionate about education and I love getting to see the impact she makes on her students every day, however, teachers aren’t paid well, especially in North Carolina. $20,000 would make a huge impact on our lives and assist with putting a down payment on a house so that we can start to build a permanent home in our community.
