Like all great love stories, ours began in a bar. It was her birthday and she'd asked her best friend for a boyfriend. Her best friend's husband's best friend was in town and got tricked into showing up. At first sight, she wanted to put her fingers in his dimples and he wanted to let her. We talked all night and immediately felt at home with each other. We'd known the same people for years, even been at some of the same parties, but never met. We hadn't been ready yet. We were that night.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?We've always been on the same wavelength. Back when our oldest was our only child, we were in line to get treats on our way to the park and she started doing a weird dance like kids do. My wife turned to me, a name on the tip of her tongue. "Who is that one actor?" she asked, and without thinking I said "Martin Short." She fell in love with me all over again that I got the reference (which was basically the Ed Grimley dance), but the truth is, I didn't see the dance. I'd just read her mind.
What would you do with $20,000?After twenty years and five kids together, living in military base housing or rentals, we have finally purchased our first home. It's a bit of a fixer-upper, and $20,000 is almost exactly the price of a new roof.
