In 1991 I was born with bladder exstrophy and had major reconstructive surgery at age 4 at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore during an 8-week stay. There, I met another child recovering; we bonded at the Ronald McDonald House and shared a childhood goodbye kiss. Years later, we reconnected, stayed in touch through illness, and fell in love as teens grown into adults. I moved to Ohio, we married, and now have two healthy daughters.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Our favorite memories as a couple really come down to two moments: our wedding day, surrounded by the people we love after everything our story took to get there, and the births of our two daughters. Nothing compares to that mix of joy and relief—hearing they didn’t inherit bladder exstrophy and realizing the hardest part of our story didn’t carry forward into theirs. Those two moments feel like everything we fought for finally becoming real.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d use the $20,000 to take our girls on a fun, family vacation and then put the rest toward some home updates and projects we’ve been wanting to do.
