We built a life we love, and we've learned that our favorite part isn't where we go—it's being together.
We would like to thank you for supporting The CAbejons in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
Our love story began in 2011 at the University of Oregon. Chris was a grad student paying his way through school at the tutoring center and I was the student who desperately needed help after sleeping through more than a few 8 a.m. accounting classes. When I passed my final I texted him to celebrate and asked him out for drinks. One marg turned into an entire day together, then an entire spring break with my cat Marley and his corgi Ginger. That tutoring session turned into 15 years together.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?One of our favorite memories is learning to sail together in Maryland. What started as a new hobby became years of adventures around the world—from the British Virgin Islands and Mallorca to Thailand and San Diego. Sailing has given us the chance to experience different cultures, see places we never imagined, and collect incredible memories along the way. The best part isn't the destinations—it's sharing them with my best friend.
What would you do with $20,000?We've been incredibly fortunate in our careers, so we'd use the prize to pay it forward. We'd give half to our niece to help fund her college education and donate the other half to The Animal Foundation, an organization doing important work for animals in our hometown of Las Vegas. Supporting the next generation and helping animals in need would make this prize even more meaningful to us.
