Manuel & Mary have been through a lifetime of obstacles and still continue to be by each other's side. Together since the age of 15/16.
We would like to thank you for supporting Manuel and Mary Alvarez in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
Our story began in 1998. I was 16 and Manuel was 15 years old. At first glance, we knew that there was a future. We officially became a couple in early 1999 and have never been separated since. We spent our days going to the movies, walking around our small town and even joined the local junior bowling league. As we grew, our lives together flourished into true love.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Our favorite memory, as simple as would sound, was starting a family together. We were very young parents and our focus was to create a loving and safe environment for our children. We both came from somewhat dysfunctional families and we wanted so much more for our children's future. We now have three adult children who have became respectful and successful persons in our society.
What would you do with $20,000?If we win this, we plan to use the money to catch up on bills and buy new furniture as well as help our daughters with anything they may need. Hopefully there will be enough left to have a trip for my husband and I because when we got married in 2005 we never had a honeymoon.
