Redefining "In Sickness and in Health": 14 Years of Marriage, 13 Years of Chronic Illness
We would like to thank you for supporting Lindsey Anslinger in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
Our love story began like many nowadays, but it wasn't as common 15 years ago—we met on Plenty of Fish. I was newly divorced with a baby and a two-year-old. All of my friends said it would be a good distraction, as long as I never actually went out on a date. I didn't get on it very much, so about five months after creating the profile, I went online to delete it. When I pulled up the homepage, all of the messages were displayed on the screen, and about five messages down was this cute, bald guy
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?By far, it has to be when we found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I have been very sick for about 13 years with a debilitating case of Crohn's disease. We had been told by multiple doctors that it was not possible for me to get pregnant. Josh, my husband, did not have any biological children of his own, even though he treated my two sons like they were his from the very start. She was the missing piece to our puzzle that we never knew we needed, and they have a bond like no other.
What would you do with $20,000?Our entire marriage has been focused on raising our children and managing my illness. Between surgeries and monthly medical supplies, the bills add up fast. Lifting any portion of that burden would be a blessing. Beyond that, the chance to step away together with no worries would be magical. We are happiest just sitting by the water listening to music. This getaway is a breath of fresh air we deeply need. Thank you for considering us.
