Connect How did your love story begin?

We met onstage, in a production of ‘Legally Blonde’. Sophia was Elle Woods, and Kai was the understudy for her on-stage love. Two shows in, we were inseparable best friends, though everyone else could see that it was so much more. On a weekend trip to Mt Hood, we officially began our love for travel and each other. Less than a year (and 5 countries) later, Kai proposed to Sophia on a black sand beach in Iceland, with the black diamond ring she’d mentioned back when they were “just friends.”

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

When Sophia was crowned Miss Oregon Volunteer, we pooled our creative skills, launching an inaugural Cabaret For A Cure to benefit St Jude Children’s Hospital, Sophia’s long-standing volunteer focus on pediatric cancer research & advocacy. Kai directed, wrote & built video content for the show while Sophia hosted & produced (not to mention both performing onstage again with our Legally Blonde castmates). We’ve never been prouder, working as a team & ranking top 3 in this national fundraiser.

What would you do with $20,000?

We would put it towards our upcoming wedding — a small, destination event on the big island of Hawaii (and a honeymoon beyond?). Sophia took Kai there for his birthday and we fell in love with the scenery. Travel has been one of our greatest shared loves, and we look forward to continuing that adventure together.
