Not a fairytale—a true story of cancer, loss, Army life, infertility, and 27 years of finding joy in the storms, and choosing each other.
Help us share our love story in Variety, take home $20,000, and go on a triple date with Jeff & Emilie Goldblum and Charlie Day & Mary Elizabeth Ellis!
In 1994, John was stationed at Ft Campbell while I was attending Western Kentucky University. I went to high school with his buddy who was also dating my roommate. One night he spotted a photo of me and asked who I was. I was at a concert, so he came back to WKU the very next night just to meet me. The moment I saw him, it was love at first sight. More than 30 years later, that one decision changed our lives forever.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Choosing a favorite memory after 30 years together is almost impossible. The day our son was born is top, but our long-awaited honeymoon to Alaska will always hold a special place in my heart. After 10 years of marriage, we finally took the trip we couldn’t afford as newlyweds. We soaked in every moment-from endless salmon dinners to whale watching and watching otters swim beside the ship. It wasn’t about luxury; it was about finally sharing our dream together.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d use the money for all of our travel expenses to support our only son during his senior year of college football. He’s over 1,200 miles away, but we’ve always done everything we can to be in the stands for his games because those moments are priceless. As a medically retired family with a disabled veteran, every trip has required sacrifice. This gift would give us the freedom to cheer him on without the financial stress, and any remaining funds would be saved for the future.
