How did your love story begin?

I met her brother through a dinner invitation to the General’s house. Her brother & I became fast friends. I met her & her mom in the chapel parking lot while her brother & I were on the way to go play tennis. Her Mom invited me over to their house for Thanksgiving & then I glommed onto them like a limpet. Her view was that I robbed the cradle as she was a senior in High school & I was a GI. Let’s say that my recollection & hers agree, but there are details best left out for younger ears.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We met in Germany. Our first tour after I was commissioned after we were married, was in Germany, where our two oldest kids were born. And we lived in Germany a final time for four more years with four kids. Traveling together, seeing Europe, different cultures, eating different cuisines, meeting great friends, those are our treasures.

What would you do with $20,000?

We have many places where it could go, and many places it probably should go. The most pressing needs are getting ready for life in retirement. We would put a third in savings, we would use a third to pay down debt - like the mortgage, we would use a third to invest in our home by doing improvement things around the house, we need some painting done inside, we have some other projects, too that need to be done. Those are the places where the money would go.
