We both lived in Nashville, knew the same people, and frequented the same bars, yet never met because we were in other relationships. In 2014, Ricky moved on a whim to Denver and got a job at a sushi restaurant where my best friend worked. Weeks later, after my own breakup, I moved back to Denver. Looking for a casual date, I asked my friend for a recommendation—she called Ricky. Twenty minutes later we met, dressed almost identically. We’ve been together ever since, spending only about 10 days

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Choosing one favorite memory is impossible, but our wedding day stands out. After moving from Nashville to Los Angeles, we drove to San Francisco to elope at City Hall. We flew out our best friend Kesia—the same friend who introduced us—to be our witness. We were the last couple married that day. As we stood beneath the grand staircase, the room emptied except for us. Unplanned, a string quartet from another wedding echoed through the chambers as we exchanged vows through tears.

What would you do with $20,000?

If we won the $20,000 prize, we’d finally take our official honeymoon. After 12 years together, multiple cross-country moves, building a life side by side, and countless trips centered around family and friends, we’ve never taken one for ourselves. We’d use the opportunity to explore Japan together, celebrate our marriage, and create memories that are entirely our own.
