Connect How did your love story begin?

Jesus and I met in college. We both were cheering on Houston Cougar football and hit it off, quickly meeting around campus to eat or study on a regular basis. When I was graduating and moving into my own place Jesus let me know he was interested in moving in. He was no longer able to support his studies financially and wanted to move closer to work he found. We grew close after years and moved a few times but stayed together, managing through Hurricane Harvey and the beginning of COVID-19.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We had secured a marriage license but while waiting the mandatory time prior to being wed by the court they were shuttered by the lockdown. On the first week in June the Houston Courts opened for limited services, and we were the first couple married since reopening on that same Saturday. We were days from our license expiring, and only allowed two guests, but we enjoyed a kiss through a mask with our moms and brothers in attendance and walked to the Aquarium to enjoy our families joining!

What would you do with $20,000?

Jesus and I were able to purchase a home in Houston a couple years, but we ended up in a massive headache. Slowly and all at once, we discovered our newly remodeled dream was actually a house-flipper special. A heavy rain woke us on our first night staying in the new house, and we walked into the garage to find water streaming in from the ceiling, the first in a long line of “repairs” that were simply a coat of paint. If we managed to become America’s Favorite Couple we could complete repairs!
