How did your love story begin?

Tinder! We chatted about film and music and decided to watch a Lynne Ramsay marathon for our first date, which happened to be the day after Thanksgiving. Six months later, we moved in together; that was more than a decade ago! We initially bonded over our love of photography, music, and food, but this developed into our shared values: living a rich, full life dedicated to leaving the world a better place than how we found it.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our first summer together we traveled to Nicaragua to help a friend establish a sea turtle hatchery at Playa Escameca in San Juan del Sur. We cleaned up the beach, monitored and guarded the turtles as they laid their eggs (to protect them from poachers), and built a makeshift nursery. It was beautiful and tragic and humbling and united us in a shared love of the natural world.

What would you do with $20,000?

We’ve never had a honeymoon, so part would go towards that, something real modest and remote and understated (perhaps Romania or the Netherlands). We’d use some of it to continue remodeling our fixer-upper townhome we bought one-and-a-half years ago, like redoing the kitchen floor, finishing the basement, and creating a native wildflower garden in our tiny backyard. Any leftover funds would likely be used to pamper our rescue pup, Betelgeuse, and adopt a kitten or two.
