How did your love story begin?

1975 in a disco club. Last call, the lights came on. I got my first good look at the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. As she walked away, fearing I’d never see her again, I yelled out, “ You like steak dinners?” She said yes, but refused to give me her number. Her friend rattled off Susan’s number to me. I called the next day, we talked for over 2 hours. We saw each other every night, after 2 weeks, I proposed . Her response was, “ Are you nuts!” We just celebrated our 50th Anniversary.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

My wife and I planned a trip to Rome for our 50th wedding anniversary. What my wife did not know was that all our children and grandchildren were waiting to surprise her at a restaurant in Rome on our first night in Rome. I had been planning the surprise for over 3 years. We pulled it off. The look on her face, the tears , the love that night was a memory neither of us will never forget. Even the servers were crying.

What would you do with $20,000?

When we first got married I was a young Sargeant in the Marine Corps. The most I could afford at that time was a $200.00 engagement ring which Susan affectionately calls her canharly ring because you “can hardly see it.” I’d buy her a ring she can really really see!
