Connect How did your love story begin?

On Halloween night in 1998, Gabby was at a party dressed as disco-loving Martian and Fred was working behind the counter, managing a popular diner in Philly. Gabby's friends talked about stopping at a diner to see their friend Fred. Sparks didn't fly that night, though; work was hectic and Gabby was ready for bed. But a few months later, the same friends were having a party and this time, during a quiet afternoon (and with no one in costume), we could really talk and get to know each other!

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

A few months after we started dating, Fred got a job two hours away. We'd take turns traveling on weekends to see each other. One Friday, Gabby arrived at Fred's apartment and smelled a home-cooked meal wafting down the hallway. A bottle of red wine was on the counter—the label was mysteriously covered with construction paper. Fred asked Gabby to guess what kind of wine it was. After a few failed attempts, Fred unwrapped the label to reveal a special label that read: Will you marry me?

What would you do with $20,000?

We're parents of two neurodivergent young adult children and our older son has profound disabilities; it means that every month we have expenses not covered by insurance. In addition, Gabby has had Type 1 diabetes since age 10 and insulin pump supplies are another major out of pocket expense. This $ would be a great help! And for fun: we just celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and haven't been able to do a weekend trip away. If we won, we'd use a small amount for hotel and travel expenses.
