Connect How did your love story begin?

Five years after he lost his wife and one year after I ended an engagement, neither of us was looking for love. We were simply following what brought us joy—zydeco. I came for the dancing; he returned to the music he had left behind 30 years earlier as a musician. One night at Jax, he finally asked me to dance. As he held me close and the music played, something unexpected happened. One dance became a conversation, a friendship, and a love story. Today, we’re still dancing through life together.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our favorite memory was our first date. I planned a day I hoped Kim would love. Knowing how much she enjoys being near the water, I took her to Kemah for lunch on the boardwalk. After that, we headed to a Tacos & Tequila festival where she danced around in her flowy sundress, lighting up the whole place. Later, at an ’80s music night, the band pulled her on stage to sing and play tambourine. I captured it all on my phone. Everywhere we went, people smiled and gravitated toward us .

What would you do with $20,000?

As a middle-aged couple who found love while starting over, this $20,000 would help us build the next chapter of our life together. We’d put it toward creating a home filled with love, laughter, and community—a place where family and friends can gather, connect, and make memories. Most of all, we’d continue sharing our story as a reminder that it’s never too late for new beginnings, healing, and a love you never saw coming.
