We met while living on different continents. Through flights, visas, a rescue dog, and life’s challenges, we built a place called home.
We would like to thank you for supporting Chris and Dalila in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
I came to the United States to visit my cousin, who was dating one of Chris’s childhood friends. They introduced us, and I expected nothing more than a fun conversation during my two-week trip. Instead, we clicked instantly and were a couple by our third date. What followed was years of long distance, flights across the Atlantic, and a K-1 visa journey. Today we’re married, living in Colorado, and building a life together.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? Our favorite memory is getting stranded at the Peru-Bolivia border. We had no idea Chris needed a visa, so while our bus continued without us, we squeezed into a tuk-tuk with our luggage and raced into town to get photos and paperwork done. The photo studio was so small Chris had to crouch down to fit in the frame. Somehow, after a lot of stress, laughter, and improvisation, we made it to La Paz in a crowded van. It was chaotic, ridiculous, and completely unforgettable.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d use the prize to create more adventures together. Some of our favorite memories come from the unexpected moments—getting stranded at borders, navigating new countries, and figuring things out as we go. We’d love to explore more of the United States, visit places we’ve always dreamed of seeing, and make memories we’ll still be laughing about years from now. Experiences have always been our favorite investment.
