Connect How did your love story begin?

We met through friends in high school, always exchanging quick hellos. But summer 2004 changed everything. We were suddenly inseparable, sneaking extra moments together—like when Brandon “accidentally” locked his keys in his car so I’d drive him home. By July, he called from a family reunion to ask me out. We went to Chili's for dinner, and then met up with our friends afterwards. They had no idea we had been on our first date, and it was a fun little secret we kept to ourselves for a bit!

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our story is unique. We treasure the memories we made before Brandon's boating accident, which left him paralyzed from the chest down. Yet some of our most meaningful moments came afterward. In the hospital, we spent hours talking, praying, and reimagining our future together. Today, as we navigate our new normal, simple things like dinner dates and running errands, what's normal for others, is special for us, reminding us to cherish every moment.

What would you do with $20,000?

We would use this to transform our backyard into an accessible space we can truly enjoy together. Right now, getting from the ramp to the yard is challenging, limiting our time outdoors together. We dream of a space designed for both of us, with easy access, comfortable seating, and an outdoor kitchen where we can relax, cook, entertain friends and family, and enjoy the sunshine together with comfort and freedom.
