Honestly? Right place, right time. We met on an app—not exactly a storybook beginning. I was one bad date away from giving up, and he was visiting the U.S. from Mexico for the first time. An hour before our date, he told me he didn't speak English. We laughed and went anyway. Our favorite memory is our road trip from Texas to Indiana. We spent a weekend exploring Hot Springs before continuing to Indianapolis, where he met my parents for the first time. Seeing the charm of Small Town America was special, but my parents made the biggest impression. Coming from Mexico, where family means everything, being away from his had been hard. They welcomed him like family, and for the first time, he could truly picture building a home here in the U.S.

After a courthouse wedding, we'd finally celebrate with a honeymoon in Mexico and fly my parents there to meet his family for the first time. The immigration process meant putting many dreams on hold, so we'd turn our rental into a home that truly feels like ours, invest in our future together, and donate to our Dallas animal rescue, whose cats didn't just steal his heart—they helped turn him into the cat dad he never expected to be.
