Connect How did your love story begin?

Sabri and Zach served in AmeriCorps together. That year, he wrote in her birthday card that she was “a friend he wanted to do life with.” From then on it became obvious they deeply cared for each other; their most cherished ritual was to rub salve on each other's calloused hands. Their love continued to grow! After only 4 months of dating, outside a project site, Zach and Sabri decided to move to Seattle and build a life together. That was 4 years ago—their marriage will be this July in France.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

To be in love is to have fond memories of things that are merely life. Sabri’s family is from a little “holler” in Kentucky, while Zach grew up in San Jose, California. So many of the memories they have made together were experiences that expanded their understanding of each other and the world around them. One such memory is a cross-county road trip they took together. How lovely it was to travel the open road, and each other’s minds, nearly endlessly for those hours in the car.

What would you do with $20,000?

Sabri and Zach do not measure wealth, success, or happiness in a dollar amount (but bills still have to get paid, right?). With $20,000, they would pay off debt they have accrued from going to college and restarting their life in KY. This reward would provide the opportunity to help out family, save for a house, and return to school to pursue a doctorate and master’s, respectively.
