We met at Kentucky State University. Byron was a senior graduating that semester, and I was a freshman. He wasn't interested in dating a freshman. To get his attention, my best friend and I signed up to be in his fraternity's fashion show. He graduated and moved to California, but we wrote letters and called to keep in touch. Then he returned to KSU to attend grad school and we have been inseparable every since!
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Our favorite memory as a couple is overcoming obstacles to keep us apart. Byron took a job at Western Kentucky University. We took turns every other weekend to visit each other. After five years of dating long distance and the death of my father, he decided to take a job with the KY Legislative Research Commission to be closer. In 1996, we had a son and then married in 1997. We know our relationship and marriage is a gift from God that can't be returned.
What would you do with $20,000?Since Byron is retiring at the end of the year, we would use the $20,000 to buy a hot tub, take a long vacation to either Hawaii or Africa, and donate to KSU scholarship funds so others may find their college sweethearts!
