How did your love story begin?

We met in a local Community Theatre production of “The Sound of Music”. Jennifer was cast as Maria, and I was the Captain. For the first several weeks of rehearsal, she was finishing up at Georgia, but no one told me, so I thought she was her sister (another “tall redhead” who was cast as a nun). When she finally arrived, she came up from behind and tapped me on my shoulder. “Hi, I’m Jennifer,” she said, and I turned around and instantly fell helplessly in love.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

There are so many over the course of 34 years, but two of our favorites involve meeting some of our favorite performers and artists, specifically Brian Stokes Mitchell and Stephen Sondheim. Jennifer has a huge crush on BSM and Sondheim is a personal hero of mine. When I told BSM in a hotel elevator that my wife had a crush on him, he responded “What’s your room number?” When we met SS, I couldn’t talk and Jennifer had to speak for me. Our very favs include our 3 daughters and our new grandchild!

What would you do with $20,000?

Travel. I retired from teaching last year, and we have been spending some of our time traveling and making travel plans, including taking my father-in-law to DC back in October, and planning to visit our daughter and her boyfriend in New Jersey this September, then traveling to Rome and Tuscany next Spring. We want to return to London (the site of our honeymoon) at some point to see a play at the Globe (we are Shakespeare fans!), which was in the planning stages when we were there in 1991.
