Once upon a swipe in the wild world of online dating, Avo found Vanessa’s Hinge profile—witty, stunning, and sadly, in the middle of her “all men are trash” era. Two months later, fate (and Bumble) gave him a second shot. Vanessa was charmed by Avo’s humor, love of sports, and his adorable dog Pablo. She handed over her number with a flirty “use it wisely”—and he did. Two years later, they’re more in love than ever, proving some matches really are made in swipe-heaven.

During the 2023 Nuggets vs. Lakers Western Conference Finals, we made a bet: loser wears a sign in public. Vanessa, confident in the Lakers, lost in dramatic fashion. Her punishment? A giant sign that read “I lost a bet to my BF. Denver swept LA. I am an idiot.” She wore it at a busy bar while Avo documented every glorious second. It was hilarious, slightly humiliating (for her), and one of our favorite memories—because nothing says love like sports rivalry and public shaming.

Of course we would save most of it for our future home; but in the near future, we’d buy Dodgers season tickets—not just for us, but for future generations of our family. Sports brought us together & will always be part of our love story. It was at a Dodgers game that Avo accidentally met my parents for the first time. In fact, our first trip as a couple was to SD for a Dodgers game. From buzzer-beaters to stadium snacks, we’d be making memories for years to come and passing down the tradition!
