We fell in love 11 years ago and have been married for 10. We have survived addiction and cPTSD together, and have four beautiful children.
We would like to thank you for supporting Tyler and Gavriela Powers in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
He confessed his love to me after having been friends for a year; he was like an uncle to my severely autistic son, and I was freshly divorced from a violently abusive "marriage". He was actually a person experiencing transitional homelessness at the time and struggling with an addiction he had already been battling for 10 years. I was freshly diagnosed with cPTSD, & he was my 1st safe person/safe place. He wooed me by becoming a man of God & fiercely defending my son & myself against our abuser
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? The moment after we got married, he and I and our autistic (non verbal) son went into our truck and we experienced the Glory of God, right there in the cab w/us. Our son began laughing uncontrollably, smiling, making eye contact. We all felt the tangible presence of God, even though it seemed like the entire world was against us at the time.
What would you do with $20,000?Get out of debt, provide housing for our family, give to another family in need, invest into our small, faith-based jewelry business, and purchase a vehicle (as we are currently without one and living on the edge of eviction every month due to my recent severe foot injury).
