We found the love of a lifetime after our previous spouses both died.
We would like to thank you for supporting Trista and Jeff Allende in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
Our kids were friends with each other as teenagers, so we knew about each other, but were each married to other people at the time. In 2014, Jeff's first wife passed away. In 2018, my first husband passed away. Our kids suggested we get together for drinks to talk about the grief of losing a spouse. Jeff wanted to ask me out then and there, but knew I needed time to grieve and process the loss of my first husband. We got together again in 2021 and fell deeply in love. Got married in 2024.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? On a trip to Chicago, having dinner at our hotel restaurant, nothing fancy. We were discussing our children, and I pointed out to Jeff the reasons that I love his three daughters just as much as I love my son. He suddenly dropped to one knee and proposed to me! He didn't have a ring yet, but said he had wanted to propose for the last year and a half; when I talked about my love for his girls, he said he knew he couldn't wait any longer to make me his wife.
What would you do with $20,000?We live in a small community that is one of the poorest counties in our state. Two of our county's largest employers have recently closed, and the residents are losing hope. We would use the money to do something nice to uplift the spirit of our town.
