Connect How did your love story begin?

When Kala was on her way to visit her college teammate & friend at the Anatole in Dallas, Marlon saw her from the balcony. He then pressed her friend (who was now the football trainer at Texas Tech) to give him Kala’s number. Kala politely declined this news, but her friend insisting that they would be a perfect fit, gave Kala’s number to him anyways. The rest is history.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

For Kala: my favorite memory is just living together at TTU and staying in a sky high apartment. I loved how we could leave the sliding doors open, look over campus, walk most places, and just enjoy our time together before the responsibilities of the real world hit. For Marlon: My favorite memory is when i20 shut down from the ice on the way home (to DFW) and we stayed in the Motel 6 eating gas station snacks and watching cable on Christmas Eve/Christmas.

What would you do with $20,000?

We bought a fixer upper a couple years ago, and there are still many things that need to be fixed upped! We also have 4 beautiful daughters that have needs such as braces, and activities they want to try. We would likely pay off our family vehicle. We talked about giving out some scholarships for some kids to play a sport in town or get some free lessons. We also were interested in getting a community food bank going in town. Other aspirations are a family vacation and a vowel renewal ceremony.
