Our love story started in 8th grade, around 1976, when I’d call Efrain for my best friend who had a crush on him. I was just the voice on the other end… never imagining he’d become my forever. We grew up just streets apart, built a friendship, and by 1989, we were building a life. Some love stories start with fireworks—ours started with a phone call, and it’s still going strong
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?My favorite memory is our first date—a festival in Newark. Efrain, being Cuban, wanted to share his world with me. I kept saying, “If my Italian family knew where you were taking me, they’d lose it!” I felt out of place at first, but we laughed, explored, and had the best weekend. It was the start of everything—unexpected, real, and unforgettable.
What would you do with $20,000?We’ve worked our whole lives—Efrain, a Cuban boy living his American dream, and me, an Italian girl who just wanted a family. With $20,000, we’d give to our daughters who’ve brought us so much joy… and maybe get a plot to be buried side by side. Like Rick Astley says, together forever—because after all these years, that’s exactly what we are.
