Connect How did your love story begin?

I was working third shift at Kinko's copy center. Chris and I had a mutual friend who knew I was trying to teach myself to play bass, and that Chris's band needed a bassist. She brought him to Kinko's one night to introduce us. Of course it was a very busy night, and I was kind of annoyed at the interruption. Chris said, "I hear you're a bassist." I told him I was attempting to be. He asked how many basses I owned. I said two. He said, "You're a bassist. Come to my house on Thursday to jam!"

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We drove our '72 Olds Vista Cruiser from Kentucky to Arizona in the fall of 2021. The car overheated before we were 5 miles from home, but I insisted we were going to make it. We stopped at countless car washes along the way, flushing the radiator, and ended up changing the water pump in the parking lot of Tucson Dragstrip. We stopped at anything that looked interesting to us, and experienced so much of nature's beauty. Don't give up, take the backroads and make time for fun!

What would you do with $20,000?

We'd use it to rebuild the 1922 coal miner's house we bought earlier this year. It's always the fancy mansions that get saved; rarely does the everyman's house get restored. We think it's an important piece of Kentucky history. We'll be doing most of the work ourselves. Whatever's left over would go towards a train trip in Europe, or going to Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats!
