Connect How did your love story begin?

She covered crops in California; he was a voice for ag in North Dakota. Two national farm reporters from very different worlds. We met in 2015 at a major ag conference in Phoenix and bonded over bad coffee and big tractors. Six weeks later, fate brought us together again as we were two of only nine people selected for a leadership cohort in Washington, D.C. Every ag event after became a date and we fell in love on the trade show circuit. Who knew romance came with name badges and microphones?

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

It’s hard to pick just one, but visiting national parks has been a big part of our story. On the 2017 road trip to move Sabrina from California to North Dakota, we explored several and fell more in love, with each other and the country. In 2018, Rusty proposed in the stunning Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Each visit has given us memories we cherish and a reminder of how beautiful life can be.

What would you do with $20,000?

We know it’s not glamorous, but first…bills! Then we’d visit our grown kids in California and Connecticut. Our passion project comes next: Sabrina portrays Mrs. Claus in Fargo (and Rusty is sometimes Santa) and we have a special heart for Deaf children. We’d love to host a “Movies with Mrs. Claus” event and rent a theater, show Christmas movies with subtitles, and give Deaf kids a holiday memory made just for them.
