Our love story began by happenstance and a beautiful sense that we were meant to meet. Aidan, an Aussie traveling New England, matched with Mercedes, a Maine local, in Bar Harbor. From our very first date, we both felt something incredibly special. Though Aidan was set to return to Australia, his heart stayed behind—“It’s not goodbye, it’s I’ll see you soon” and he made sure our paths would cross again. The rest is history.

Shortly after our wedding, we stayed in Wells, Maine. Aidan was set to return to Australia the next day—a little heartbreaking, but we walked the beach under pastel clouds, a blood moon, and a perfect sunset. Aidan kept asking if he was dead because the views were breathtaking and the moment truly special. We shared beers and laughed at a local brewery, soaking in every joyful moment, realizing we’re truly best friends and life partners. The universe gently reminded us to have hope.

If we had $20k we’d finally take our dream trip to Japan—a shared passion from the night we met and a lifelong wish for Mercedes. We'd bring our teenage son too, which we can’t usually afford with the costs of living on two continents. It would also help Aidan stay with Mercedes longer while we wait out his green card, giving us precious time together as a family.
