Our love story began in 2019 when we were introduced by Sam’s cousin, who was Joanna’s best friend. Even though we were 3,000 miles apart—one of us in NYC and the other in the Dominican Republic—we didn’t let the distance stop us. We worked hard and made sacrifices, including working overtime to visit each other. When COVID-19 hit, things got even harder, but we stayed strong and committed. In the end, love won, and we got married at the end of 2020.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Becoming parents is our favorite shared memory as a couple. It was the most beautiful reassurance—watching each other navigate the most nerve-racking and awe-inspiring experience life has to offer. Seeing one another hold our daughter for the first time brought emotions that words could never fully capture. In that moment, we knew for sure: we picked right.
What would you do with $20,000?We’re currently expecting our second baby, Oliver José Castro, and we dream of the day we can bring our kids to a home we own. The $20,000 would help us save to eventually purchase a home for our growing family and ease the ever-rising cost of childcare.
