How did your love story begin?

We met as freshmen at college. We had attended high school directly across the street from each other and never met. I was a majorette and he a football player. I knew his teammates well and even went to prom with one of his close friends. Our paths never crossed. Most unusual is that he grew up in the high-rise projects in East Baltimore. I grew up in West Baltimore and spent my teen years on the outskirts of the city. We should never have met.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our wedding day was at ages 56 and 58. We were married the week before Thanksgiving in front of our children, family, friends, and coworkers from all over the country and from relationships as far back as our childhood. We did not separate the bride's side from the groom's side, so everyone sat together, and it became a grand party of all races and ages. We've been married twelve years and folk still tell us how much they enjoyed our wedding. It was God blessed.

What would you do with $20,000?

My husband and I have had turns being caregivers for others. He had some personal problems, and I have had expensive health problems since year one of our marriage. At 70, is he still working every day as a truck driver to ensure my medical care and needs are met. It would give me the greatest joy to be able to pay down some debt and semi-retire him. He deserves to spend our last years not pressed and we deserve some quality time together.
