Through a mutual friend, Starla joined our Saturday KU football watch group. Although not a football fan, she joined each week and we got to know each other more. Starla was also running a small Instagram thrift shop at the time. I DM’d her to buy a “world’s greatest grandpa” sweatshirt and the topic quickly shifted to silly things like her love of Shrek and my Grampa-esk habits. Soon, we started casually seeing each other and then dating.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?We met in Lawrence, KS while Tori was in grad school. After her graduation, we spent a day enjoying everything about the city where we met. Taking things slowly, we walked around downtown, shopped our favorite indie stores, and had lunch outside at the local cheese shop. We had open, honest conversations about the next steps in our relationship and decided to move across the country together. It was a full day of being together just for the sake of it and is still one of our favorite memories.
What would you do with $20,000?Right now, we are in a really fun stage of our lives together. With a wedding on the horizon and hopes of owning a home, $20,000 would help bring our dreams to life. Working in the education and the nonprofit sectors, we love what we do, but often have to scale back life-plans for the sake of our budget. We want to put down deep roots in the city we call home and the community we love. This money would allow us to not have to choose between the wedding of our dreams or a home of our own.
