How did your love story begin?

Our story began online (scary, we know) and blossomed into a beautiful friendship that overcame all odds. I left home for six months. We wrote letters and FaceTimed often, and helped each other through the challenges unique to military demands. When I finally made it home, I got into a serious accident leaving me with brain and spine injuries. This event often splits 80% of couples apart. But not us. We got engaged instead! It's a miracle to have a love that embodies "in sickness and in health!"

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our favorite memory would have to be when I was able to finally walk a little bit better for the first time since the accident. I remember we went for a small stroll. I was nervous to take a step down. It was a challenge for me, but he stood by, ready to catch me if I fell and when I did it with aid, the pride and pure joy on his face was immeasurable. Sometimes it's the smallest things that make the biggest impact on life, and sharing them with your best friend truly makes it worthwhile.

What would you do with $20,000?

We would be immensely grateful for the support as our finances have been very tight. I am unable to work or serve my country anymore, and we would use it to invest in not only helping to get to a better spot ourselves, but to help others who might be struggling as well. We believe in kindness to others in all ways. It's what makes our world a beautiful place.
