I yelled for a wine opener, he had one, I said “thanks, marry me?” as a joke. He said no. We then shipped off to Peace Corps together.
We would like to thank you for supporting R2B2 in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
We were at staging before our Peace Corps assignment and I asked him to “marry me” as a joke when he was the only person who had packed a multi-tool with a wine opener that another volunteer and I needed to borrow to open a wine bottle. He turned me down, but let me use the wine opener. Then we ended up in rows right next to each other on the plane to Guyana, our Peace Corps country.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? We were invited to a regional burning man in another country when we were taking CELTA classes in Spain, so we said yes! We completely overspent and by the end of the trip, we only had $23 in our bank accounts combined. I looked at him and said, “can you live this life? Where we don’t have money, but we have adventures?” And instead of freaking out at our situation, he took me to the beach until our train to the airport arrived. Broke, sitting on the beach, enjoying each other’s company.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d love to donate some to the Trevor Project to help mental health awareness/suicide prevention in the LGBTQ+ community, some to the communal food fridges in our city (New Orleans), and then some for new adventures/our wedding!
