Connect How did your love story begin?

In 2019, I was invited to sub on bass for Los Nahuatlatos, a local San Antonio Xicano fusion band I had played with during my 20s. The lineup had changed since then, and a few new faces were in the mix—one of them being an emcee who went by the stage name Arturo Barz. Before our 1st rehearsal, he’d been told I was the best female jazz bassist in TX, which made him a little nervous. But we clicked right away, and that initial connection eventually led us to start a new project: Radio Tierra.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

From weathering the rise and fall of our first band during the pandemic to channeling our creative energy into our award-winning, 8-episode music podcast Trigger Words, nothing compares to the fulfillment we’ve found in supporting our fellow creatives. Whether raising funds for medical expenses at the height of the crisis or helping to cultivate a lasting culture of community among SA performers, giving back to the city where we fell in love has become one of our proudest accomplishments.

What would you do with $20,000?

Since the beginning of “us” as a couple, we’ve performed in some great places, but none as special as the Dakota East Side Ice House. An LGBTQ+ owned gem in the heart of San Antonio’s East Side, the Dakota has become a cultural hub, hosting some of the most memorable performances and live artist moments in SA history. This pandemic-resilient venue stood strong against the odds, continuing to serve and uplift its community. We’d be honored to play even a small role in helping ensure its legacy.
