Connect How did your love story begin?

We met online through an LGBTQ+ website. When we finally spoke on the phone, he shared with me that he worked with kids and I shared that I was a foster parent. What he didn't share was that he was a Miami Beach police officer so, when he showed up to our first date for breakfast at a local bagel shop in his full gear, I checked off one of my fantasy dates. We sat for two hours getting to know each other, then went back to his police car and made-out.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our wedding. We limited our guest list to only friends and family that positively impacted our lives as individuals and now as a couple. The wedding took place in a very unique looking (it looks like a cave) synagogue in Miami, with my son, sister, best friend and his best friend holding the chuppa. Having the people we love acknowledging our love and marriage was incredibly memorable. That and my 9-year old nephew telling me we had the best dessert buffet he's every seen.

What would you do with $20,000?

We've mortgaged our house and taken out loans to start my national association (NASDF.org) that provides an umbrella of products, services, support and resources for people who are getting a divorcing, currently divorced or have a single-family household and our advocacy work is geared towards foster care reform. Part of the money will go towards expanding our membership base and the other part will be a vacation as a way to thank my risk adverse husband for taking this journey with me.
