Laramey and Robin Zimmerman

We've survived! Child loss, car wrecks (one leaving R with a broken back), ruptured intestine nearly causing death, & more.

How did your love story begin?

Robin was on her own at 18 -- a senior in highschool, renting a bedroom from a lady in WV named Jenny. Laramey was 20 and a Marine. We were each working to escape our abusive upbringings and set a new path. We met when Jenny asked me to ride with her to a going away cookout for Marines who were shipping to Cuba. We exchanged addresses (1995, so no cellphones, etc.) but never communicated until he returned from Cuba 3 months later. We went out for pizza . . . and eloped 16 weeks later.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We discussed this question and decided it's not ONE memory, it's the accumulation of them. When we think of all the obstacles we've overcome -- how many times we had back-to-back stressors before a blessing finally found us -- we realize our favorite memory is that we were together for all of the experiences. The good. The bad. The sad. We stuck it out TOGETHER. We survived TOGETHER.

What would you do with $20,000?

Finally take that honeymoon we never got! Maybe combine it with missionary work somewhere since we've always wanted to do something like that, but haven't found a way or time. April made 30 years of marriage, so we're long overdue.
