How did your love story begin?

In 1979, Jane finished the final exam before me in a class we shared. Couldn't catch her before she left campus. I had to pull out the phone book at work that day. To call every McDonald's that matched what I overheard her telling her friend in school. Which was her first name, employer & title. I had waited all quarter to ask her out, so as not to embarrass her at Ga. State, if she wanted to reject me. On the first call to over 35 Metro Atlanta locations, she answered the phone. I was stunned.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

We went to a BJ Thomas concert at the old Atlanta Civic Center. She was 19 and I was her first boyfriend. First kiss, first love, will be her final love. That was the first time, I had a full bouquet of roses for her. We had an early dinner before the show at Mary Mac's. I was only 20, financed a 1978 Ford Mustang. I bought Jane a dozen cinnamon rolls at the restaurant to go home with, to share with her family members. Walked her to the front door, asked for a kiss goodnight. Soulmates!

What would you do with $20,000?

I would take my only love on a mind-blowing vacation. We've waited 46 years to have a once in a lifetime trip. We were married in 2024 on leap day, February 29th. Our only time in a motel without one of us not being sick for a few nights to tie the knot in Sevierville, Tenn. If any funds are left, we will give to her sister-in-law Lisa, who has a rare blood cancer.
