We are high school sweethearts that have been married for 40 years. Best friends who have been through many struggles and survived.
We would like to thank you for supporting Kim and Jim in this year's competition. Your participation allows us to aid both the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank and Oceana in their respective missions to support hunger relief and ocean conservation.
We met as freshmen in high school and were best friends throughout, but didn't start dating until our senior year. Every day, Jim put a rose in my locker and I still have the very first one he gave me. He did many other romantic things to win my heart, including writing me a book of poems, in which he declared that if every leaf on every tree had "I love you" written on it, it still wouldn't be enough to express his love. Super cheesy but it worked and we fell madly in love!
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Because we were so young and had no money - Jims granny offered to let us stay at her house for our honeymoon. The evening we arrived she was so excited to have us but also insisted she stay and serve us dinner and her homemade strawberry ice cream. Then after dinner she asked if we wanted to play a game. We felt obligated to say "yes". So we played "Bible trivia" with our granny on the first night of our honeymoon.
What would you do with $20,000?Travel! In retirement we hope to be able to travel lots! We had plans to go to Europe for 3 weeks this August to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary, however we ended up having to cancel that trip. So we hope to get to go to Amsterdam, Belgium, Germany and Italy next summer!
