When Keoni’s father went into renal failure, he put his life and lab career on hold and moved back home to Hawai’i to take care of him. With his sole interest dedicated to keeping his father alive, dating was the last thing on his mind. However after some peer pressure from his friends, he made a Bumble account. Meanwhile, it was my 24th birthday and I decided to take a solo trip to Hawai’i. What was supposed to be a quick fling turned into extending my trip, meeting his dad, and falling in love
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple? We're torn on this one. The obvious would be our engagement. Keoni proposed to me on the beach where we met in Hawai'i, surrounded by friends and family, where he had coordinated a pop up picnic and a guitarist for a serenade. However, we recently moved across the country from Florida to Massachusetts. Being able to experience seasons together, eat apple cider donuts, build snowmen, watch spring bloom, and build a life together has been nothing short of amazing.
What would you do with $20,000?I'm sure Keoni would love to convert it all into a year's supply of Dunkin, but we would likely use some for a down payment to purchase our first house, some to save up to start a family, and the rest would go to our specific interests. For me, I'm a primary care nurse practitioner that specializes in gender health, specifically transgender hormone therapy. Keoni volunteers in local politics. The money would allow us some wiggle room to volunteer our time for philanthropy.
