My mom was dating a toxic man, and his daughter (also toxic) was my best friend in college. She always wanted me to meet her gay friends from Arkansas, but I refused until I gave up on Arizona. I finally made the decision to visit J in Chicago, and ended up going back several times to see him again before moving there within a year. I saved up all my money and drove across the country and never turned back.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Standing on a beach in awe of the sunset, the clouds and the sky were purple and pink like I've never seen before. I was trying to take a picture to save this forever for us, but a woman came by and asked us to cherish this time and live in this moment, so we stopped using our phones and I cried; I knew we would never experience this feeling again.
What would you do with $20,000?We would like to own a home, and this seems impossible for Millennials like us. We aren't rich or successful, and we've been handling a lot of loss over the last few years. This would help us establish a permanent residence and gain confidence in our future.
