Connect How did your love story begin?

We met in the wild west days of Chicago’s restaurant scene—early 2000s, long shifts, late nights. I ran one spot, Althea started at another, and word spread fast: “She’s your type.” I showed up for a salad, came back that night, and never really left. She moved in next door, then in with me. The spark was instant. The chaos was real. And somehow, 20 years later, we still look at each other like it’s 2004.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

A one-month road trip from Chicago to the West Coast—our son, two bulldogs, one van, and no real plan. We slept under the stars on the edge of Oregon, boondocking our way down the Pacific Coast Highway and back. Just the five of us, chasing sunsets, cooking in parking lots, and laughing every mile. It was messy, magical, and hands-down the best trip of our lives.

What would you do with $20,000?

We’d turn part of our home into a small training and yoga space—Althea teaching yoga, me lifting weights, maybe even a space for our bulldogs to lounge while we move. We’d open it up to friends, neighbors, and anyone who needs a reset. Health and connection have always kept us strong—we’d use the money to share that.
