Connect How did your love story begin?

In 1989, I saw THE most beautiful girl in the world singing on the back of a parade float. I followed that float and it was the best decision I ever made! For a year I tried to win her affection and finally gave up. Months later, she told me she loved me! I asked when she knew she loved me and she said when she saw me from the float, but she wanted to be sure I loved Jesus more than I loved her, so she stayed silent. When she saw me devote my life to serving others…she knew it was time.

What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?

Our favorite memories are those which have driven us closer together. The MANY deaths of parents and siblings. The births of our seven babies and then Grandbabies. The hard times and the good times. When we flew down to help the victims of the hurricane in North Carolina, our daughter flew down from Pennsylvania to join us in recovery efforts. We realized then that all our children are servants whose greatest joy is helping others. That joy cannot be measured. Our love has birthed love.

What would you do with $20,000?

As Pastors, we minister to the many needs of our local community. There is a plague of homelessness in Pittsburgh, where we’re located. The different ways in which we’ve helped those in our community, whether with food, shelter or counsel, all resources have come from our very small but courageous congregation. We want to develop a space in our church to adequately take care of the needs of those without means or hope. This will help us to restore the church for community use.
