Phil noticed Frank’s online profile and wrote to Frank “You have a wonderful smile". Frank responded “thanks” with emojis and they began to text. Phil was in awe that Frank a retired Army lieutenant colonel had served in Afghanistan negotiating with village leaders. Frank learned that Phil had been married to a woman and had 2 sons, one age 14. When we finally met in person, there was a spark, and chemistry that grew until we fell in love, finally marrying 7 years later in November 2024.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?Frank schemed with a friend to try rings on Phil’s hand one night as Phil slept. Learning Phil’s ring size, Frank went shopping and found the perfect engagement ring. We travelled to Australia in October 2023. Unbeknownst to Phil, Frank worked with our tour guide and the travellers on our tour to set up a proposal on Frank’s birthday. As our group reached the middle of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, Frank got down on one knee, popped out the ring box and proposed, totally surprising Phil.
What would you do with $20,000?Phil lived for decades as a straight man only accepting that he was gay in his 50s. Frank though openly gay, never found true love until we met. We were lucky to find love at this time in our lives but know that many people never find it. We are blessed with good health and have the love of family and many friends. We hope to use the $20,000 on media to encourage and inspire others, whether straight or gay, that they can find true love at any time by keeping hearts and minds open to it.
