Long answer: I was bartending at Squeezebox, a party held at Don Hill’s in SoHo in the 1990s. It was a predominantly gay party but had gotten so popular it was a mix. This absurdly handsome guy kept buying beers from me and I finally bought him one. He said, “Am I the only straight guy in here hitting on you tonight?” I said, “YOU’RE STRAIGHT?” We’ve been with each other ever since. —— Short answer: We met in a gay bar.
What is your favorite memory you've shared as a couple?In the early aughts, we rented a golf cart in Rome across from The Eden, where we were staying. We’d discovered you could park an electric vehicle anywhere; great for sightseeing! We were with another couple, very close friends from England who met us there. Secret Service drove the golf cart through all the Roman streets navigating traffic like a Formula One driver. We were all screaming with laughter. People on tour busses kept snapping photos of us. A truly splendid day.
What would you do with $20,000?We’d probably travel, even though the kitchen is a wreck and could use a remodel. We believe in spending money on experiences instead of things. We’ve a long list of places we want to visit. It’s how we knew we would be good together. We were great traveling companions from the start. It’s a perfect metaphor for marriage—all you need is a good buddy with you to navigate life’s adventures.
